DBC has lived in Harris County, Texas, for 49 of his 60 years. He has observed Houston and Harris County growing in ways both positive and negative. The population of the county has doubled since his arrival in 1966 (no causal relation implied), with new residents arriving from all over the world, creating a beautiful patchwork quilt of cultures, ideas, and spirits. He has also seen and lived with the effects of urban sprawl, with its heavy dependence on automobiles resulting in deadly air pollution and collisions.
